About This Site

What Should My Kid Do was built by a parent who got tired of staring at a blank wall every time his kid said "I'm bored."

The usual options โ€” searching Pinterest, scrolling through activity blogs, asking the group chat โ€” all have the same problem. The suggestions are generic. They're not about your kid, your afternoon, or what you actually have at home. They're about some hypothetical average child with a craft supply store nearby.

This site does something different. It asks three questions: how old is your kid, what are they into right now, and what do you have at home. The answer it gives back is specific to those three things. A 5-year-old who loves shapes and has magnet tiles gets something completely different from a 5-year-old who loves dinosaurs and has cardboard boxes.

Real activities from real kids

Some of the activities on this site were invented by actual children. Color Scavenger Hunt was created by a 4-year-old named Levi who one afternoon just started collecting everything red in the house. Avalanche came from the same kid climbing a pile of outdoor cushions with his dad and turning it into a game with rules. Number Box started as a cardboard box with numbers written on it and a pile of socks.

These activities work because they came from kids playing, not from adults designing something "educational." The best at-home activities look like pure chaos and accomplish something real at the same time.

No shopping required

Every activity on this site uses what you already have at home. The generator never suggests materials you haven't listed. If it calls for tape, you said you have tape. If it needs cardboard, you said you have cardboard. The whole point is to turn what's lying around your house into something a kid actually wants to do.
